There’s a new way of showing when an author has arrived in the hall of fame – when they become a fridge magnet. When I was researching Amateurs in the British Library, I was delighted to discover that Tropic of Cancer, that one time banned book, had now been reincarnated as a fridge magnet. Now Miller’s friend Durrell has achieved similar status, thanks to the enterprising people at the White House in Kalami. Needless to say, I bought 2 – pride of place on the fridge. But it is kind of weird.
